The POISE is an arc lamp 2.30 m high with a beige fabric shade on a heavy base. The arc extends 2 meters sideways – allowing you to hang the light above the sofa or dining table without drilling into the ceiling.

That's exactly what an arc lamp is for: lighting above a seating area in a rental home, or above a table that is not positioned under the ceiling light point.
